Aftercare

fixomull

  • Keep your tattoo wrapped for 2-6 hours.

  • Take off cling wrap.

  • Wash thoroughly in the shower using hot soapy water with your hands.
    No Flannel or cloth.

  • Pat dry with paper towel (not fabric towel)

  • Apply dressing directly onto tattoo, do not apply ointment or cream prior. You may need to ask someone for help with this step.

The first 7 days

  • Leave dressing on for the next 7 days from application.

  • Don't take off earlier.

  • Wash over the top of dressing 1-2 times a day with warm soapy water. Lather and rinse the area with unscented liquid soap.

  • If you notice a rash or reaction, remove dressing straight away. Any itching after 3-4 days is perfectly normal!

  • Dressing may lift on corners, only remove if tattoo becomes exposed. If only a small area is exposed, use sharp scissors to trim the section that’s peeled up and use moisturiser on the open spot.

After 7 days

  • Remove dressing in shower under warm running water.

  • Peeling with the dressing is perfectly normal!

  • Lightly moisturise the tattooed area 2-3 times with clean hands until no longer dry or flaky.

  • Wash everyday with warm, soapy water until no longer dry/flaky

  • If you have any scabbing after removing the dressing, allow it to dry heal (avoid putting any ointment on the area and do not pick or scratch them as this can result in pigment loss)

DO NOT’s

  • DO NOT pick or scratch the tattoo

  • DO NOT swim, bathe or submerge the tattoo in water until it has fully healed (showering is fine)

  • DO NOT allow the tattooed area to become sunburnt or expose the area to sunlight for prolonged periods of time as this can affect the healing of the tattoo greatly. Apply sunscreen to the tattooed are ONLY when the tattoo is fully healed

  • DO NOT apply too much ointment as this can block pores and cause further issues with healing

ointment healing

  • Leave the wrap on for an hour or two

  • Take off the wrap and give it a thorough wash with hot soapy water, making sure to clean away any excess ink and plasma

  • Allow the tattoo to air dry for a few minutes, then apply a VERY thin layer of Dr Pickles or Tattoo Tonic (this can be found in the health and beauty section at Woolworths, online or alternatively we stock Tattoo Tonic in the studio)

  • Make sure to rub the ointment into the tattoo itself (heat the tube up under some hot water to thin the ointment and make application a little easier.

The first 72 hours

  • For the first 3 nights, apply a thin layer of ointment and rewrap the tattoo securely with cling film (this will protect the tattoo while you sleep and help prevent infection)

  • For the first 3 days, wash the tattoo thoroughly 3 times a day and apply a thin layer of ointment after allowing it to air dry first

After Week 1

  • During or just after week 1, the tattoo will start to flake and peel, please switch over to a regular unscented moisturizer as it will be better for healing at this point and will help with the itchiness.

  • If you have any scabbing, allow them to dry naturally. Do not apply cream to scabbing or allow the scab to come away prematurely as you can lose colour.

DO

  • Wear sunscreen on your tattoos once fully healed when outdoors. I recommend clear zinc sunscreen.

  • Keep tattoos moisturised.

  • Contact your artist whenever you have a question regarding your tattoo.

don’t

  • Put your tattoo in direct sunlight.

  • Pick or scratch tattoo.

  • Soak in water for 2 weeks eg. no swimming, baths, saunas etc.

  • Excessive exercise on tattooed area.

  • Let pets touch your fresh tattoo.
